Embryos
The first flushing programme was carried out at the start of 2007, when we flushed Nebo Roberta to Nenuphar, knowing that this combination was already working after it had produced two fantastic bulls (Viking + Amazon). The flush produced an amazing 21 embryos. A few of them were implanted into cross bred recipients, and one of the results was Nebo Dynamite, who went on to sell for 12,000gns in Carlisle. Another embryo calf we got was Nebo Dolly, the first female calf out of Roberta.
Over the past years, numerous flushing programmes have been carried out on different cows in the herd, including Winnington Omiss , Briarlea Unis and Nebo Caryl. We also flushed a heifer in 2008, Nebo Bunis (Neuf x Briarlea Unis), who was an excellent heifer, who unfortunately broke her leg a week before going to the Royal Welsh Show. Determined to try and get something from her before putting her down, we flushed her, but only got one embryo. This was implanted, and fortunately we got a bull calf in October 2009, Nebo Eilir.
We see the flushing programme as an excellent opportunity to better and expand the herd by flushing the cows that we know are breeding well within the herd.
